Ensuring Seniors Access to Local Pharmacies Act

Congressmen Morgan Griffin (R-Virginia) and Peter Welch (D, Vermont) have filed bipartisan legislation in Washington to give senior citizens in medically underserved areas the opportunity to access lower copays to any pharmacy willing to accept the Medicare Part D drug plan's "preferred pharmacy" terms and conditions.

The National Community Pharmacy Association (NCPA) is strongly supporting H.R. 793, the Ensuring Seniors Access to Local Pharmacies Act. The legislation would especially benefit seniors in underserved urban and rural areas who rely on independent pharmacies. The bill has been jointly referred to the House Ways and Means Committee and the Committee on Energy and Commerce. Texas Congressmen on Ways and Means are Republicans Kevin Brady, Sam Johnson Kenny Marchant and Democrat Lloyd Doggett. On House Energy, Texas members are Republicans Bill Flores, Joe Barton, Pete Olson and Michael Burgess and Democrat Gene Green. Burgess and Green are on the Health Subcommittee.
