Independent RX Pharmacists PAC

IPRX PAC was created to build and strengthen relationships with state leaders and encourage positive dialogue and sound legislation to protect the pharmacy profession and enhance their ability to provide community patient care. Pharmacists contribute to the political action committee to help elect small business and pharmacy-friendly candidates into the Texas Legislature to lead legislative reform and protect pharmacists and patients in their community.

Pharmacists consistently rank among the top five professionals for honesty and ethical standards of people in various professions. They not only represent a significant portion of the U.S. health care delivery system, but independent community and compounding pharmacists are also among the most accessible and trusted sources of health care for many patients across the country. As medication experts, independent community pharmacists provide counsel on the treatment of a variety of health related concerns and reduce overall costs by helping to ensure that patients consistently take their medications and by referring them to generic treatment options when available.

Today an uneven playing field shortchanges local pharmacists and denies patients and health plans the benefits of true pharmacy competition. Small business community pharmacies receive one-sided; take-it-or-leave-it contracts from major corporations like Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs). Small business owners may be forced to either dispense drugs at a financial loss or lose access to many longtime patients. Current antitrust laws prevent independent pharmacies from collectively negotiating contracts, as opposed to large pharmacy chains with greater leverage.
